ASA set to police the Internet's advertising badlands

Oddly, the watchdog will receive seed funding from Google to kick things off

From March of next year, the UK's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) will be significantly extending its reach into the Interweb, having jurisdiction over all on-line marketing communications. This, said the ASA, will allow it to "deliver more comprehensive consumer protection online".

This week the Canadian communications regulator decided that incumbent telcos would have to make their fibre networks available to smaller operators, and that the country's 'deferral accounts' would be used for rural broadband rollouts, as well as customer refunds. The incumbent telcos are not happy, and even those smaller players see flaws in the plans.
